[Snip] Yesterday, my wife’s cousin showed pictures she took recently in Norway. Among them were photos of old stave churches from the Middle Ages. There were also a few of churches ranging from the Middle Ages to the present. (Lorraine is a church lady.) And that brings us again to small chapels in modern buildings.

We know that the old Heathen temples varied in size, from personal or family structures to larger ones serving extended communities. We can only guess how Uppsala looked. A recent excavation in Norway revealed a community temple with several of its accessories. We can well understand, for there are folks of many religions who have shrines in a corner of the house, a shelf, or in the backyard. From there, it climbs from small chapels all the way to massive cathedral complexes.
