Parents Object to School Play, “Santa Goes Green”

By Josh Woods

A few DuBois Area School District residents want to pull the plug on a fourth and fifth grade play titled “Santa Goes Green.” Four individuals approached DuBois’ school board at its meeting last night to ask the board to reconsider its choice of school play.

Reynoldsville resident Patty Fisch told the board John Jacobson, whose run for Congress in California failed, wrote the play. Fisch said the play contains a hidden political and environmental agenda that she does not want her child exposed to. A book written by Jacobson titled “A Place in the Choir: Finding Harmony in a World of Many Voices” proves Jacobson intends to reinforce a message through music, she said. Fisch read several excerpts from the book.

“What I don’t like is that several parts in the play drill into kids’ heads the world’s going to end if they don’t go green,” said Fisch. “It’s telling them if they don’t go green they aren’t doing their part.”
