Rap music treatment for Parkinson’s disease

A former vice president of the University of Arizona who’s in her 60s, Sharon Kha is an unlikely rap star.

But a local rap star she is.

Wearing a sideways ballcap and bling around her neck – a plastic clock on a rope, Rotary Club medal and a gold chain – the diminutive Kha struts into venues filled with strangers she calls her homies and begins to sing-chant.

“They bailed out the bankers and brokers and such. Is there funding for us? Is that asking too much?” she raps to an audience of about 25 during a recent presentation at Tucson Medical Center’s El Dorado Campus.

“What do we want? Research!” she shouts.
