DANVILLE – After four years, a Wiccan school is leaving Hoopeston, but it’s not going far. This week, the new owners will be moving the school into its new location at 117 S. Chicago St. in downtown Rossville. “We’re very happy to go to Rossville,” said Don Lewis, the chief executive officer of and majority shareholder in Witch School International.
Lewis and a group of other shareholders recently purchased the school from former owner Ed Hubbard of Hoopeston. In June 2003, Hubbard bought a building at 200 E. Penn St. in Hoopeston and opened the school. Debbe Tompkins, who just moved to Rossville, is the new president of the school, and Virginia Powell is the office manager. Members of Hoopeston area churches spoke out against the school, which teaches Wicca, a religion that focuses on connecting with an inner deity through personal empowerment.
