Pagan alliance changes name

The 13-member Pagan alliance recently changed its name from the Society of Avalon to the Pagan Student Spiritual Alliance. The name change is intended to make the group more inclusive of all kinds of Pagan students. “It didn’t really meet our needs,” Alliance Secretary Cami Schaefer said of the old name. “It gave the club a Celtic theme where we wanted to be more outreaching, more general.”

Just as there are several different religions under the general theme of Christianity, there are many diverse Pagan groups under the heading of Paganism. The group hopes to include all of them, club president David Yancy said. Yancy describes Paganism as a religion with beliefs in multiple deities and an earth-based spirituality, in many cases female.
