In spite of the huge strides made in medical science and technology, an overwhelming majority of South Africans still use traditional forms of healing. The flip side is the often publicised allegations of witchcraft, side by side with all the successes of traditional healing.
About 80 percent of South Africans visit traditional healers before they go to medical doctors for conventional medicines. Sazi Mhlongo, president of the Traditional Healers’ Association (THA) in KwaZulu-Natal, says members of his organisation see thousands of people for all kinds of illnesses.
