£50,000 facelift for kirk’s ugly past

By Angie Brown

A HISTORIC kirk in East Lothian, once at the centre of Scotland’s notorious witch trials, is to be opened as a tourist attraction next month after a £50,000 facelift.

It is expected that thousands will be drawn to St Andrew’s Old Kirk, in North Berwick, which once housed a gathering of 200 witches. Officials at the Scottish Seabird Centre, the current owners of the land on which the church ruins sit, said they planned to open it by 30 June.
