A day-long hostage crisis that resulted in the deaths of 22 people ended in the Saudi Arabian city of Khobar when commandos stormed a luxury compound and freed dozens of foreigners. The Saudi commandos moved in Sunday morning, jumping from helicopters onto the roof of the high-rise building where militants were holding as many of 60 hostages.
One militant was arrested and at least three were injured, the Interior Ministry said in a statement. CNN reported that another militant was killed. The Saudi authorities said most of the hostages have been freed, but there were reports that some had been killed. Saudi officials would not comment on the condition of the hostages.
