Union County system says it didn’t permit hostility, violate girl’s civil rights

The Union County Board of Education on Friday denied allegations made by a 14-year-old former student that the school system violated her civil rights by endorsing, sponsoring and promoting the Area Wide Crusade Christian revival.

The school board filed its response to a civil rights lawsuit filed in February on behalf of India Tracy. Greg and Sarajane Tracy filed the lawsuit for their daughter because they allege the school system failed to protect her from harassment and physical attacks.

The suit also claimed the school board and two principals named in the suit allowed a hostile environment that prevented the free expression of her religion. The Tracy family follows the religious tradition of paganism.
